The Importance Of A Healthy Life
Growing up my father always told me stories about my grandmother who had passed. He told me how special, wise and educated she was. His favorite saying was a quote by her stating how you have absolutely nothing if you don’t have your health. That always stuck with me and maybe made even paranoid to the fact that I watched what I ate from too early an age and exercised non stop. Of course we all know that statement about health, it’s true. All the money and love in the world don’t mean a thing if your health is deteriorating. So what to do. How do you maintain or improve your health? The following are the most practical steps to improving your health:
1. Get Fit
Forget about losing weight and getting “into shape”. What you should be most concerned about is your fitness level. Exercise is not only there to make you look good. It is also there to make you feel good. How? When you exercise certain things happen in your body:
One of the amazing benefits of exercise is that it helps normalize glucose, insulin and leptin levels. It does this by optimizing insulin/leptin receptor sensitivity. This is possibly the most important factor for optimizing your overall health and preventing chronic disease.- Exercise encourages the brain to work at its optimum capacity by causing nerve cells to multiply , strengthening their interconnections, and protecting them from damage.
- Exercise improves sexual functioning, clears skin, improves mood and gives you a better night’s rest.
- Studies prove that exercise increases productivity as well as happiness.
- Exercise affects the muscles, lungs, heart, brain, joints and bones in all positive ways.
The best way to fit in exercise if you feel you have no time during the day is by setting your alarm to wake you up one hour earlier. Otherwise exercise can be done after work – I personally find this hard as I’m exhausted after a day of work so I keep it to the mornings. Weekends also give you ample time to fit in a 45 minute to 1 hour workout.
2.Take Health Supplements
3. Change Eating Habits
Diets don’t work. In fact 95% of diets fail people. Everybody’s body is different and everybody’s nutritional needs are different. You cannot just adopt another way of eating, call it your own and expect to lose weight. You’ll end up craving food the whole day, will feel light headed around afternoon and by the time night time comes in, will end up raiding the fridge for as many carbohydrates and sugar infused things as possible.
The key to a healthy weight is to slowly change your eating habits over time. For instance, if you love dessert after dinner every night, change your every night chocolate indulgence to sweet dried fruits like dates and keep chocolates for the weekend. If you drink three cappuccinos a day with full cream milk and froth change to one cup a day with fat free milk and limited sugar. Add salad to lunches to fill you up and give your body the nutrition it needs and deserves. Soups at dinner will fill you up as well.
Slowly, but surely the weight will come off. The problem is when you diet with the aim of losing something like 10 pounds in one week. That only happens with extreme juice detoxing with excess exercise and even then you won’t lose as much as 10 pounds in 7 days. A slow change in eating habits over time will do you the world of good and your weight will slowly shed off and this way it will be harder to put on weight again so fast.
4. Meditate

5. Breathe In Fresh Air
Breathing in fresh air is very important. According to research, spending time in fresh air, surrounded by nature increases your energy. Fresh air is also good for digestion, improves blood pressure and heart rate, makes you happier, strengthens your immune system, cleans your lungs and sharpens your mind. I say that those are more than enough reasons to take a walk in the park as often as possible!
Life is beautiful and there is even more beauty in it when you feel healthy and can appreciate each day. Learn to live healthy; get fit, take health supplements, change your eating habits, meditate and breathe in fresh air and there is no limit to how extraordinarily more productive and happy your life will be!
